I really don’t want to be this cliché, but it’s a must – cliché or not. For my sanity, let us not look at in in terms of resolutions, but as goals. Things I am going to actively try to accomplish in 2022.
Now I didn’t want to overwhelm myself or place unrealistic expectations on my myself. I mean at the end of the day the overall goal is to…well accomplish the goal. Because the best resolutions are the ones you can actually keep. Hopefully as we are going through my new year goals, you can find some great ideas that will help you as well.
1. Focus on your health, not the way you look
I am going to try start to eat healthier. Again. I am a little irritated with myself for this to even make an appearance on the list. Because who are we kidding? It’s always on the list, every year. However, this is NOT an invitation to start a diet or some outlandish workout plan. It’s just a reminder that lean meats and vegetables are not an option and sugar is not a necessity.
2. One In, One Out.
This year I am going to try to make an economical impact on the environment, my closet and on my wallet. One i, one out will be the golden rule for all non essential purchases in 2022. I know my recycle footprint isn’t huge, but little changes can add up to a whole. Buying an item with the intent to let go of an item will have a huge effect on your wallet while making an important step towards being more eco-friendly.
3. Take your time, don’t rush.
Reclaiming my time. Reclaiming my time. Multi tasking has been way too over hyped. Truth is multitasking reduces our brains’ grey matter and hurts productivity and efficiency. Not to mention increase stress, anxiety and depression. Nope, no thank you. In 2022, I will make an effort to focus on one thing at a time.
4. You are not the accountability police.
The lack of accountability is my number one pet peeve. Unfortunately, 2020 and 2021 gave me a crash course in the lack of accountability that exist in humans. When I tell you I stayed on edge and ready for a debate. It was horrible and mentally unhealthy. The worst part is that your family and friends are not immune to the lack of accountability. Even though I believe a lot of issues can be fairly easy to resolve when ownership is taken, it is not my responsibility to try and teach that lesson. Unless, the person is a willing participate, the message of “taking accountability” will almost always fall on deaf ears.
5. Don’t make yourself uncomfortable
Don’t make yourself uncomfortable so that someone else can be comfortable. Saying “no” doesn’t make you a bad person. It makes you a person with boundaries. Period.
6. Prioritize people in the same manner they prioritize you
I want the same energy I put out. Naturally, we aim to be nice to others and show them our love for them, but then criticize ourselves when the care is not reciprocated. Stop! You are not the reason that person has not made you a priority. However, you are the reason why you keep torturing yourself. It hurts our feelings when we do not feel like a priority to the ones we love. Especially when we go above and beyond to show then that WE care. As painful as it it, stop. Maybe your absence will spark a more grateful heart.
7. Try new things
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic I now this seems like a hard one – and it is. There’s quite a bit of uncertainty about the future of traveling and entertainment. So setting a goal for going to Broadway or Paris still out of the question for me, but little adventures is definitely a thing.
8. Spill the tea…immediately!
“I don’t feel like dealing with that foolishness” or “whatever” are my go to taglines when I am offended by a person’s actions or words, but don’t want to escalate the situation. Unfortunately, I have learned the hard way that doesn’t work. Let me repeat. Holding in your feelings does not work. The more negative trash you place into your mind, the more likely it will spill over and create a mess if you don’t empty the trash regularly.
9. Move out of your comfort zone.
This idea is pretty open-ended. This can be applied to fashion, places, careers, mental and physical health, and home. The possibilities are endless. We can go on and on.
10. Plan, plan and plan.
Having a schedule and a written plan helps us stay efficient. I mean there’s only 24 hours in a day. Start making use of a to-do lists and agendas. I am amazed at how much I accomplish when my thoughts and ideas are actually written down and scheduled.
2022
Hopefully, 2022 will treat us a lot better than her cousin 2020 and 2021 treated us. Remember goal is always to be the best version of YOU.
